VIACARD
In Italy you can use the VIACARD for payment of the motorway tolls.  The card is valid for all toll motorways in Italy with a few exceptions on Sicily. 

The VIACARD is issued in your company name, and it can be used by all vehicles belonging to the company.  The card is valid for all types of vehicles – also cars.

TELEPASS
In addition to the VIACARD you can rent a TELEPASS device, which is an electronic device that has to be installed in the windshield of your vehicle. With a TELEPASS you do not have to stop at the toll both, but you drive through the TELEPASS lane where the toll is registered electronically.

The devices are rented from the motorway company, and when ordering the device the license plate number of the vehicle as well as the Euro norm has to be stated.

TELEPASS devices can only be ordered if you have a VIACARD account.  You will have to use your VIACARD if there are no TELEPASS lanes at the toll both. You can only order one TELEPASS device per Viacard.

TELEPASS PREMIUM TRUCK
In addition to your Telepass Autostrade offers the Premium Truck Card. With this card you can have an extra discount on the monthly motorway toll invoice for refuelling made by Shell or Tamoil on the Italian motorway. With the Telepass Premium Truck you can also get free assistance on the motorway in case of break down as well as 20% discount on motorway restaurants.

Credit period
You obtain a credit period of approx. 2 months by using VIACARD/TELEPASS.

Discount
EU-Companies are able to obtain a discount of up to 23% of the motorway toll if they enter the FDE Consortium.  The total annual expenditure of this consortium (in practice the total expenditure of all members) will count as a basis for the calculation of the discount.  The Italian Ministry of Transport and the Italian motorway companies will stipulate the annual discount.
